Travel along with the most feared man in Southern Maryland. So notorious even the mob backed down. Cops who went after him found themselves in federal court on the losing side. His name is Ken Rossignol and he packs a fully loaded Smith & Corona (or at least the digital equivalent).

Ken's ammo: words. He's a champion of the First Amendment and an old fashioned pain in the ass. The story of St. Mary's today is one about advocacy journalism coming to a community where the press wasn't known for acting this way. No more go-along to get along. There wasn't a hand providing nourishment that Rossignol wouldn't take a little flesh and muscle from. At one point or another Ken pissed off just about everyone, including a couple governors of Maryland and me.

What made the experience of listening to St. Mary's Today: The Story of the Rag! the most enjoyable?

It was a great experience listening to this book. The narrator's voice and the very interesting story had me wanting to keep listening. I was surprised when the end of the book came and I realized that I had been listening all day.

What did you like best about this story?

I really enjoyed all of the adventures of the author as he worked hard to bring the news to his readers. He dug deep to bring the facts public and let them come up with their own opinion. This was all done while having to work long hours and carry out all the different tasks needed.

What about Stan Jenson’s performance did you like?

The performance was very good and quite enjoyable. His voice is easy to listen to but does not put you to sleep.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

How a small newspaper shakes up the local area to bring about better law enforcement.

Any additional comments?

A great way to spend an afternoon!

Fascinating story of a small newspaper editor!

This book drives home the importance of journalism. Every small town has corruption and our front-line of defense is the local newspaper. The history of the St. Mary's Today paper is a cautionary tale every community should know about.

I've learned so much especially since I'm involved in a similar situation. I have communicated with Mr. Rossignol and gave me the following advice. "If they don't hate you, you are not doing a good job." So true

A must for Journalist
