Pay Attention

Something that every person of voting age should know or be made aware of. This teaching and read should be attain as part of a high school curriculum.

Erudite and over my head

This book presents as very erudite (using big words and long, sometimes convoluted sentences). It has me thinking that I need to "up" my vocabulary; or that the meaning of words changes just friggin' changes depending on who uses them.

I mean, I thought colorblindness was a good thing. Now I'm learning that it means we don't need to consider a person's race AT ALL, so let's not give special dispensation to those who need it the most. Sheesh, and my bad.

I'm white and grew up poor. I benefited from Federal grant money to get a college education.

So this book has informed me that there is more that I can do to be less racist. I guess I'm a passive racist, and that's just not good enough. I'll try to do better.
