As he describes his own struggles to find the right path at different stages of his journey, he highlights the turning points and decisions that we all face. When do we compromise, and when we do we stand our ground? Is holding to moral conviction worth sacrificing friendship, jobs, and security?

As he takes us through his sometimes-amusing, sometimes-heartbreaking, and always-stirring journey, Gushee shows us that we can retain our faith in Christ even when Christians disappoint us.

Interesting

I found it informative; helped connect some dots historically…the truth got lost in the experience which resulted in an incorrect conclusion: arguments are apples to oranges…
was impressed however with the compassion …

Second Read Through

I loved it. The reader did a great job. The history of the SBC was interesting. My own family is a mixture of denominations that also include Catholic and Southern Baptist along with others. Not for everyone I know. But worth a read.

Moving, Honest

I was raised Seventh-Day Adventist, conservative but with a mindset different to that described here. Now I fellowship with John MacArthur types. They are a trial and a blessing. I think probably we should all seek to love and understand the other ... This is a good, interesting book. Well-rendered. My only complaint, Mr. Gushee can sound a little stuck on himself.
