As the rookie Republican governor of deep-blue Maryland, Larry Hogan had already beaten some daunting odds. A common-sense businessman with a down-to-earth style, he had won a long-shot election the Washington Post called "a stunning upset". He'd worked with cops and neighborhood leaders to quell Baltimore's worst rioting in 47 years. He'd saved his state from fiscal catastrophe, winning praise from Democrats, Republicans, and independents. But none of that prepared him for the life-threatening challenge he would have to face next: a highly aggressive form of late-stage cancer. Could America's most popular governor beat the odds again?

The people of Maryland, with their "Hogan Strong" wristbands, were certainly pulling for him, sending him back to the governor's office in a landslide. As Governor Hogan began his second term cancer-free, his next challenge went far beyond Maryland: bringing our divided country together for a better future.

In his own words, Larry Hogan tells the feel-good story of a fresh American leader being touted as the "anti-Trump Republican". A lifelong uniter at a time of sharp divisions. A politician with practical solutions that take the best from all sides. An openhearted man who has learned important lessons from his own struggles in life.

Suggesting this book to all my friends. Always interesting. Went from not really knowing much about Larry Hogan to hoping he will be our next Republican President. We need someone like him! While not too bad, he’s not the very best narrator in the world, but I was glad to be able to hear it in his own voice.

Thoroughly enjoyed.

I enjoyed this book so much. Perfect book to listen to from Columbus Ohio to NYC. Still standing is appropriate for all his highs & lows. I’m a Democrat but Larry is one of those old school Republicans that had honor & decency.

What an adventure

Governor Hogan reveals not only his childhood and family, the Baltimore riots, his cancer and the Coronavirus. His run for Governor in a blue.
He was so right about Steny Hoyer, Ben Jealous, all of congress and the Senate.

He is an amazing Governor and praying he will be President Hogan. What amazing politician to work with both parties. Thank you, Governor Hogan for being on top of the Cornavirus, you actions saved 1,000s of Marylanders lives.

Excellent Book and Best Governor

I’m originally from MD, now living in FL. I enjoyed this book tremendously!! My children , still living in MD, rave about this governor and I can see why. There’s only one thing I wish he would do, (or undo as the case may be)...reverse what the legislature and former gov Martin O’Malley did to State of MD retirees by trying to take away their prescription drug benefits. Maryland is notorious for having bad governors (Agnew, Hughes, Glendenning, O’Malley, etc.). They finally have someone who is trying to look out for the people and not his own pocket. Congratulations Governor Hogan. You’ve been doing a great job. Your dad would be so proud. You have his sense of fairness and conscience when it comes to doing the right thing. He stood up for the country when Nixon was in office and went against his party. This book proves you have his same ethics. We need more people like you in government service. (Help the State retirees before your term runs out!!)

Enjoyable and Informative

Former Governor Hogan always seemed as a very down to Earth guy. The quintessential “have a beer with the voter” type. This book is very that, straight shooting on real issues Americans face and how a regular governor did his best to tackle the challenges of the office and be the guy people elected. Sorely lacking in our festering political climate of left v right currently. Gov. Hogan has some self deprecating, some captivating moments in his political and personal life’s. I would recommend to those to want to believe in just a regular politician working to help ordinary Americans with the challenges we all face. Mr. Hogan could care less about making a brand, he set out to help the Maryland people and then went onto his next challenge.

Relatable humble story from Larry Hogan
