great engaging read

the story is great and you will want to know how it develops and how it started.
the narrator was excellent changing tone from dialect to Italian and I sometimes felt I was in a theatre.

Geniale

My Italian is pretty good, but I had shied away from Ferrante because I believed this series was heavily sprinkled with Neapolitan dialect and would be very difficult. This is not true. They are written in a limpid Italian, and Anna Bonaiuto’s narration is so beautiful and clear that I was able to listen and understand at full speed (though I started out more slowly).

Storia del nuovo cognome continues the coming of age story of Lila and Lenu, strikingly intelligent girls and firm friends whose paths diverge due to financial circumstances. This book covers the early years of Lila’s marriage and the end of Lenu’s studies. Domestic violence, loss of virginity, grinding poverty — all these things weave into the rich tapestry of the rione where the girls grew up. Moving, convincing, a masterpiece. And as in L’amica geniale, it ends with a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

Amazing story! Amazing voice! Amazing performance!

This story is my favorite of all times. I read the book, watched the series TV and now listening to audio which is superbly done. This is something not to miss.

Awesome!

Even though Italian is not my first language, I was captivated by the story and the way it is narrated. This story made my imagination fly and somehow identify myself with the characters, their dreams, fears and struggles.
