Charles’s life progresses quietly for the next few months, and he spends more time at home with the family over the Christmas holiday. Charles’ wife, Judith heals from the gunshot while carrying a child that the doctors beg her to abort. Judith refuses and signs a paper saying she will give her life to save her child. Things in Charles’ life change, his businesses mature, construction is completed, and new projects begin. Clarence William Crawford will soon be graduating from Harvard Law School, and Charles is concerned about the law firms that are offering him a position. One law firm has illegal mobster connections. Charles’ favorite horse, Wind-Fire has developed into a magnificent stallion and Charles can’t wait to race him. Clarence had given his best friend a lot of money to keep him from being forced to quit college for lack of tuition. His father had fallen on hard times and lost his business and is in trouble of losing his home. Charles steps in to offer help.
