This is book two of the True Heart series.

Steph Rizzo loves three things: her career as a firefighter; her girlfriend, Rosa; and cooking. Not necessarily in that order. The only thing lacking in her life is trying to get her girlfriend to marry her. They have lived together for 11 years, but still Rosa can't quite bring herself to say I do.

After Rosa's parents died in a car accident, she grew up in a state home. At the age of 18, she was on her own. She worked her way through college and eventually realized her dream of becoming a police officer. Now, she has everything she's ever wanted: a lover, a home, and a career. Until the night that she is shot while on duty. Then everything changes - her life, her job, and her relationship.

Steph is about to find out what the words "in sickness and in health" really mean.

Straight from the Heart is an emotionally charged novel exploring love, loss, and friendship.

I want to add this review to offset some of the comments about the narration. I didn't like the sample, but the book was part of the romance package so I decided to try it anyway. I sped it up to 1.20 and it was totally different and much better! At that speed the story came to life instead of the dragging narration in the sample. The narrator is able to do many different voices which is great for a book with so many diverse characters. I read/listened to all 4 books in 2 days because they were so good. Take a risk. You won't regret it.

This series just gets better. Straight from the Heart by Layce Gardner and Saxon Bennett is a little more serious than the first book, but still offers comic relief from the character of Edna. With the love of Steph and Rosa being challenged, as well as, some of the other relationships in the story, it shows a real perspective into the lives of lesbians. The ending is well worth the wait. Layce’s narrative gives this tale a very real essence.

Any additional comments?

I love this series. This one, in particular, is near and dear to my heart and never fails to make me laugh and cry. You two hit so many things that are vital to my life with this story. A sense of honor and duty with all the scars no one ever sees, overcoming obstacles, even down to the Christmas tree...(had to use a chainsaw in my house on a tree one time-twice), and Steph being a hopelessly romantic softy in love with the woman of her dreams. This one has a huge piece of my heart.
