Honestly, I cannot think of a better description for this book than the title. Grizzled ex-cop, dealings with "The Family", a rash of murders, a pretty solid twist, it's all here. The ending surprised me, but also didn't. It was the logical end to the chain of events, but I surprised the authors had the guts to take it there. So many authors would have swooped in with some clunky deus ex machina, and it was genuinely refreshing to see that not happen.

My one complaint is that the authors are clearly not from Vegas. The most obvious example is the repeated references to "Vegas PD". We don't call it that. Vegas police would simply identify themselves as "Metro". In fairness, the TV show CSI made the same mistake for years, and it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the story.

The narrator was fine. For a normal detective noir story, he would have been great. He's got that perfect "Grizzled cop who's seen it all" voice. But he absolutely cannot do women's voice. It comes off as a bad falsetto. And since so many characters are women, this got to be a little grating.

Like Dexter, but with Strippers
