Spenser will do anything for his long-time love, Susan, but finds himself with more than he bargained for when he agrees to help Susan's ex-husband fight sexual harassment charges. Spenser soon discovers he has more questions than answers as a body is found, a shadowy mob connection surfaces, and the P.I. is fighting a two-front war against some very bad men and an increasingly unpredictable Susan.

EXCELLENT story! The Narration brought the characters to life. The added twist at the end of the story was very enjoyable.

I loved the story and the Narration was very good

Always enjoy Spenser, Hawk and Susan. This had an interesting dive into Susan’s psychology. And her first husband was an interesting character who surprises us.

Interesting twists

Could hear narrator breathing between most sentences which was very distracting to me,, although maybe a trial of narration w broken nose

Audible breathing between most sentences during entire story

I am enjoying the story as much as I have the other Spenser novels I've listened to with one exception - the narrator. I haven't finished the book yet and it is a struggle to get myself to turn it on as I find the narration so distracting compared to Joe Mantegna's narration in other Spenser novels. This narrator has a very old, gravelly voice which does not fit the character of Spencer and the rhythm is off. There is also very little distinction between the characters so at times you aren't quite sure who is speaking. The story is fine but can't recommend the narrator.

Enjoyable story but narrator detracts

It’s such a shame William Windom died. He was a great narrator for this book, the best since Michael Pritchard. I could image him as Spenser, unlike the difficulty I have with Joe Montegna(?)’s pedantic narration.

Good plot and expansion of the development of the major characters. I enjoyed this book very much.

Good story, excellent narration
