He claimed descent from Genghis Khan. He claimed to fight for God. But what he really worshipped… was conquest. This is the story of Timur, the man who turned Central Asia into a slaughterhouse and ruled an empire stitched together with blood, bone, and fear. From Persia to Delhi, Baghdad to Ankara, no civilization was safe. He left cities in ash, pyramids of skulls in his wake, and a myth that outlived his empire. He defeated the Ottomans. He threatened the Ming. He wrote letters to kings and Popes while stuffing emperors in cages. And when Soviet scientists opened his tomb, they found a curse. A haunting, high-stakes biography of the man known as the Scourge of God, TAMERLANE rips through history with the fire and fury of the last great conqueror.

I was intrigued by the story of this lesser known historical figure and I appreciate the concise storytelling of the author. He provides snippets of Timur’s battles, conquests and history leaving me wanting to know more. You might think listening to an historical account of a long ago, almost forgotten warrior would be mundane, but you would be mistaken. This is due to James Ferry’s narration, which is captivating and engaging as he brings Tamerlane to life. The author may have put the words down on paper, but James Ferry makes them leap off that page with his commanding voice. I look forward to listening to more of his works.
