From USA Today best-selling author Laura Scott

"If you leave on your own, you’ll be dead by morning."

Critical Care Nurse Natalia Sokolova can’t ignore former FBI Agent Sloan Dryer’s dire warning. After the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia dies under her care, her house explodes in front of her eyes and she finds her best friend brutally murdered. Ironically, the only bright spot in this horrific nightmare is Sloan’s bad Ukrainian accent and his willingness to protect her.

Sloan is convinced that someone wants to kill Natalia and when he finds a link to her family, he’s not sure who they can trust. As they run for their lives, and from the attraction simmering between them, they uncover a terrorist plot that could bring the nation to its knees. Time is running out. Can Sloan and Natalia save their country and their future, before it’s too late?

This was my first time listening to Melissa Moran and Alex Knox, and I thought they both did a great job. Their performances were engaging and fit the tone of the story well.
The storyline itself was interesting and held my attention for most of the book. However, the last hour to hour and a half really started to drag for me. It felt like the story was stretched out longer than it needed to be, and by that point I found myself losing interest. I actually stopped listening during the final 45 minutes, and while I’m sure it wrapped up with a HEA (as they usually do), the pacing just didn’t hold me through to the very end.
Overall, I’d consider this one a “maybe.” I enjoyed the majority of the story, and the concept and characters were solid, but the drawn-out ending made it harder to love. I’m going to keep exploring other Christian romantic suspense authors for now, but I may come back to this series later—especially if I can’t find something that grabs me more.
Here’s hoping for some Audible gift cards for Christmas so the search can continue 😉

I liked it but...

The characters are great. Former FBI Dryer is full of grit, determination and seeking the truth. Natalia is also gritty and tough. A great read.

A great twisted suspense
