Catherine Lacey (Nobody Is Ever Missing), Akhil Sharma (Family Life), Francoise Mouly (art editor at The New Yorker), and Kate Zambreno (Heroines, Green Girl) discuss the acclaimed novel in celebration of its 30th anniversary. Marguerite Duras' (Hiroshima Mon Amour) haunting, luminous book tells of the tumultuous affair between an adolescent French girl and her Chinese lover in prewar Indochina. With a reading by Kathleen Chalfant (The Affair, Angels in America on Broadway).

Interesting and intelligent and discussion about this book. The only flaw was the audio was poor when listening to questions from the audience.

Great discussion.

Interesting discussions.....was Duras drunk ALL the time?.....did she reinvent the novel? ....ammm).

NOT the story - This is a book review

This is one of several Thalia book club audios. I am puzzled how anyone reading the title or glancing at the duration could mistake this for the complete novel.

The conversation is enjoyable and relevant except for the contributions of Akhil Sharma who sounds like a lazy, petulant Sophomore who in his free time chairs the College Republicans.

A reasonably interesting discussion of the book

I’m not pleased. I wasted a credit on what I thought was the book. This is nothing more than a discussion of the book.

THIS IS NOT THE BOOK

If you're looking for an audio book version of "The Lover", this is not it. Instead this is just a group of self absorbed vain adults having a discussion on it including one adult that seems a bit suspicious.

Don't buy.
