That Deaf Kid is a valuable resource for parents of deaf and hard of hearing children. It examines the ongoing tug-of-war between mainstreaming, deaf schools, hearing aids, cochlear implants, sign language, speech therapy, and more. That Deaf Kid brings these issues to light and shows how it's possible to have a healthy balance. Most important, it builds a critical bridge between fitting in and belonging. When we cross that bridge, we encourage deaf and hard of hearing children to discover their authentic selves.

The person reading the story has an accent that is very thick and difficult to understand. Given that the author is from Philadelphia PA, USA and telling the story from a first person narrative, the audiobook should have an American reader. Unfortunately, the reader's mispronunciation of common words used in the deaf education make a mockery out of the book. The reader's lack of english fluency caused him to read
"a deer in highlights", when he should have read "a deer in headlights" which is a common phrase using idiomatic language in American English. l had seen the presentation by the author on YouTube, so l bought the audiobook without listening to the preview. Big mistake! Honestly, the presentation ASL interpreter voiced his signs 100% better than this audiobook reader! Although the interpreter was female you still felt as though you were listening to the author himself speaking. However, this audio book has a reader who is distracting and taking the listener away from the message of the author. l am very disappointed with audible. l would like a refund or preferably, reissue the book using another reader.

excellent book, awful recording
