Nataali attempts the impossible by traveling west and seeking out who among the Jolao she might influence. Ulusi ecologist, Otho Yot, turns his talents to weapon manufacturing. Meanwhile, Orobai goes in search of the enigmatic White Eagle.

Throughout it all, the numerous plot threads and story lines weave together into a complex tapestry of a world quickly heading to an apocalyptic change as a young girl, Kalisha, takes up Orobai's instruction that she document it all.
