When Leora Ebersole sees the small plane crash in her Old Order Mennonite community, she has no idea it's a foreshadowing of things to come. Soon after the young pilot, Moses Hughes, regains consciousness, they realize his instruments were destroyed by the same power outage that killed the electricity at the community store, where Englischers are stranded with dead cell phones and cars that won't start.

Moses offers a sobering theory, but no one can know how drastically life is about to change. With the only self-sustaining food supply in the region, the pacifist community is forced to forge an alliance with the handful of stranded Englischers in an effort to protect not only their supplies but their very lives.

In the weeks that follow, Leora, Moses, and the community will be tested as never before, requiring them to make decisions they never thought possible. Whom will they help, and whom will they turn away? When the community receives news of a new threat, everyone must decide how far they're willing to go to protect their beliefs and way of life.

Intense and quite a cliffhanger. Mrs. Petersheim paints wonderful word pictures. Everything comes to life within the pages of this book. An interesting issue, what would we do in the event of an EMP, love our neighbors as ourselves or become self centered? I pray we never face this issue. It's been interesting how the few Englishers and the Mennonite community grow in their relationship. The narrator gave an excellent performance. I plan to pre order the next audio version in the series as soon as it's available.

Would you listen to The Alliance again? Why?

Yes, this story has so many twists and turns. . . although I am not sure EMP which causes the power outage is really a true theory..it made for a great supposition.

What other book might you compare The Alliance to and why?

Maybe a cross between Left Behind and the Last Light Series to some extent but not totally. This book is not like any other I have read.

What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

this narrator is so good about doing the different voices...I would not have caught some of the story had I not been listening to her.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

EMP is coming and will change your life.

I was able to finish the book since it was fast paced enough to keep my interest.... somewhat. I love the narrator since I've listened to a lot of other books read by her. This book was just ok. 4 stars for performance because she might of read it too fast. I tried slowing it down but then it was too slow! Lol. I had to get use to the pace, which eventually it was fine.

It was ok.
