In The Antiquary Book Murders, it’s 1995 when elderly bookstore owner Heinz Kammler is murdered in Connecticut and Jerry Kosinsky inherits his shop. When Kosinsky finds an 1857 copy of Little Dorrit, he summons his childhood friend, renowned PI Woody Meacham, now living in Spain.

The hunt for Kammler’s killer takes a surprising turn when a book thief traveling in the U.S. on a fake French passport, using the alias Alexandre d’Arblay, becomes a prime suspect. As d’Arblay eludes the grasp of the police and the FBI, Meacham returns to Europe in the hopes of discovering the identity of the French impostor. Back in the U.S., d’Arblay is spotted in New York City but quickly disappears, prompting a frantic manhunt to capture him before he escapes across the border.
