With Boyd convalescing at home after his operation, and DS Minter preparing for his Inspector’s exam, CID Hastings is woefully under-manned.

So, when the body of a young man is found hanging from a tree – an apparent suicide, and a house is burned down killing a wheelchair-bound old woman, it’s down to DC Okeke to handle the two cases. However, as she digs into both it soon becomes apparent that they are connected to a third death, the eldest resident of an old people’s home.

As she peels the layers back and reveals the truth behind these deaths, little does she realise she’s in danger of kicking a hornet’s nest that has lain dormant for over sixty years.

Everything from the narration, to the storyline, good humor, and well developed characters…. Love this series

Such a great series

I have really enjoyed all of the DCI Boyd novels. However, this book was a complete waste of my time. So much random BS involving MI5 and, ultimately, an entirely meaningless scavenger hunt that ends …. With nothing. No ending, no culmination of events, NO WRITING. The book brings you to the storyline climax then the chapter abruptly ends and the next chapter begins with “Two weeks later”
We regret to inform you that there was no satisfying end, the villain wins (but the book doesn’t even explain how)
I want my money back.

Complete disappointment

I have not loved this series but I have liked it enough to keep listening (mostly because of Aubrey Parsons). This one however has asked for such a high suspension of disbelief that it is ridiculous and totally unbelievable. Also, I have hated Boyd's daughter Emma from the beginning but she has become the most unlikeable character in any series I can think of. Finally, I can not stand author's who continually infect their stories with their personal politics. The epilogue of this book clinched it for me. I will not be listening to anything else by this author.

Ridiculous story line - don't waste your credit...
