The first book in Myke Cole's The Sacred Throne Trilogy, blending epic fantasy with powered armor for fans of the Stormlight Archive

Myke Cole, author of the beloved military fantasy Shadow Ops series, debuts a new epic fantasy trilogy with The Armored Saint, a tale of religious tyrants, arcane war machines, and underground resistance that will enthrall epic fantasy fans of all ages.

After witnessing a horrendous slaughter, young Heloise opposes the Order and risks bringing their wrath down on herself, her family, and her village. She must confront the true risk that wizards pose to the world and weigh the safety of her people against justice.

The story was okay, the narration wasn't necessarily monotone, but she lacked impact and emotion. Favorite thing about the story was that the setting seemed like a likely origin story for the DOOM franchise. The original Night Sentinels were like crusaders before the DOOM Marine started tearing up Hell with guns and rockets.

The story was just ok. It was confusing in the beginning and when you finally started to get involved it ended.

Disappointed

I truly love this world...so twisted. So full of evil, but good things shine through, to spite that!

A wonderful world build

TLDR; A lot of build-up before getting to any sort of armor battle. Not bad, but not what I was expecting.

I think this would be better classified as YA/Late Teen. The story is well written, with no obvious problems with it, but the content skips a lot of easy troupes to build the characters. It's a book written for older teens, with some pretty explicit content, explores concepts that are relevant to that age group. That said I enjoyed it, if you can work with the slow boil the payoff is worth it.

Overall, an enjoyable story, and a great bit of world-building, to keep growing in.

Not bad, but a slow boil

While I AM hooked and have alreadt purchased book 2, this one was a slow start and for a short listen that's not good. Overall I'm satisfied with the ending and want to see where things go but I probably won't be telling my friends about this book unless they want a LGBT+ book with a female lead.

It shouldn't take 3/4 of the book to hook you.
