The entries do not record when the bells were rung, but rather what the bells heard during the long, silent nights. They speak of footsteps in the snow that leave no track, of a weeping that comes from the sea, and of a "Listener" that feeds on the silence.

As Christmas Eve approaches and the snow seals him inside, Alastair begins to hear the same impossible sounds detailed in the log. A rhythmic tapping echoes from the locked East Wing. A heavy weight presses against the door. And the silence of the library begins to feel less like peace... and more like a trap.
