Every five years, Elliot Harrow marries.
Every time, his wife dies.
And the truth is closer than anyone believes.

To the public, Elliot Harrow is tragic but untouchable—a devoted husband cursed by fate. Four weddings. Four wives. Four accidents. Each case closed. Each time, Elliot survives, grieving in plain sight while suspicion lingers just beneath the surface.

When his fourth wife dies on their wedding day, the pattern becomes impossible to ignore.

Dr. Mara Ellison, a forensic geneticist specializing in cold cases, is called in when a breakthrough DNA technique allows the dead to speak again. What the evidence reveals doesn’t fit the narrative—and it doesn’t point where everyone expects.
As Mara and homicide detective Jonah Price reopen the Harrow deaths, loyalties fracture and old assumptions collapse. The investigation uncovers a chilling truth: the danger isn’t in what was overlooked—but in who was always there.
Someone who never left Elliot’s side.

Someone who knows him better than anyone else.

Someone who understands that the cruelest punishment isn’t death—it’s survival.

The Best Man is a dark, addictive psychological thriller about vengeance disguised as loyalty, the perils of trusting familiar stories over science, and the terrifying realization that the greatest threat is often the one closest to you—smiling, patient, and waiting for time to finish the job.

THE BEST MAN, Audiobook - This is a average, disappointing story. The same words/phrases are shared by everyone, curated for example. The story lines are interesting but the writing and the law enforcement knowledge are not up to snuff. There is plenty of psychology, but no suspense; the reader is being told instead of letting the story flow. The characters are okay, but I don't care about them becuase od the writing style. This story needs better editing, too wordy, too much repetition, no individuality. The narration is by Virtual Voice. I'm not sure this was a good choice since the voice did not add to the story. I've listened to narrators that improved the books with their narrations. Source: My Audible library. 3*

4.25 - Elliot Harrow's wedding to Isabel is going smoothly until she collapses and dies at the reception. Suspicion falls upon Elliot after it's learned that he's been married 3 other times and each of those wives have died 5 years apart. What makes this thriller grab my attention is its obsession with pattern. There is no chaos nor impulsive rage, but meticulously plotted moves. Perfectly scheduled as if the crimes were designed not just to kill, but to teach a lesson. Revenge here isn’t explosive; it’s patient, programmed, and frighteningly steadfast. The pacing is unyielding in a quiet, persistent way. Nearly every chapter ends on a hook that compels you to read just one more. Winters’ writing is sharp and atmospheric. This is a dark and twisted book that keeps you guessing at the motive.
