As the title suggests, the action takes place in 1948, a year of change I could say, very important in the United States and for the world in general, as the first chapter of this extremely entertaining novel informs us with a very detailed and educational recap comprised of the main headlines of that year.
The story follows radio hosts, private detectives, and everyday married couple of Mrs. and Mr. Key. Our two protagonists have to work together in order to solve postwar Washington DC’s, most baffling murder, while at the same time figuring out how to handle their marriage that is quickly falling apart.
Spies, ruthless crooks, deceptive impostors, some competent detectives, beautiful women, murder, heists, and a well-written mystery collide in The Big Break-Up of 1948 and create a highly entertaining story featuring some of the most unforgettable and colorful characters I encountered this year.
Author James Grant Goldin perfectly captures the look and feel of the classic atmosphere of that era with this novel and I honestly hope to see more books from him as soon as possible.
Voiceover artist and narrator Nancy Bober delights and entertains the listener from the first phrase to the last word of this superb audio production with skill, enthusiasm, and energy. She is absolutely amazing and manages to bring all the characters to life with distinct voices and accents.
Nancy enriches and elevates an already excellent narrative with a top-notch performance. She is perfect for this production and I hope to discover more audiobooks narrated by her.
The Big Break-Up of 1948 is a must-listen for fans of old-school mysteries who also like a touch of comedic relief sprinkled throughout the adventure! James Grant Goldin has captured my attention with this novel and I am sure that The Big Break-Up of 1948 will become a very successful and well-known work of fiction in the years to come.
I hope that you also found this review helpful. Take care, stay safe and don’t forget, always listen with your heart!
