The Blue Jay's Call, Book Two of Alvin's Journey follows the McGinn brothers in their travels from Ireland to the new world. Alvin's sole focus is he destination in Maine, but his travels are derailed when his brother Kellen meets a young woman and delays their plans in Canada.
After a near tragedy, Alvin continues his trek to Maine and is embraced by the McCall family. Arthur is his father's best friend and takes Alvin in as his own. He shows Alvin the town of Monroe with all of its many characters.
When Alvin finally gets settled on his own farm, he is taught the ways of a Maine farmer by Arthur's daughter Mary. He is oblivious to her attraction to him until he realizes his own attractions to her. As their friendship grows, so does their bond, until they move past friends into lovers.
