The Ela of Salisbury Medieval Mystery Series

This series features a real historical figure - the formidable Ela Longespée. The young Countess of Salisbury was chosen to marry King Henry II’s illegitimate son William. After her husband’s untimely death, Ela served as High Sheriff of Wiltshire, castellan of Salisbury Castle, and ultimately founder and abbess of Lacock Abbey.

excellent story over-all, with mild inaccuracies in regards to the religion practiced by Ela. Mass was not said at the canonical hours (Matins, Lauds, Prime ect) those hours had/have specific prayers assigned to them quite distinct from the Mass. Likewise, Ela, having been educated, would have known that purgatory is a temporary place (not eternal) for the souls of the saved to complete the cleansing of temporal punishment of sins (as opposed to the eternal punishment of damnation). Purgatory will end when the world ends.
The (good) characters are likable, and have depth, as do the wicked characters. The plot is believable, and the details, for the most part keep the story in the middle ages.

excellent story over-all

Great story

Another great addition to this wonderful series. A murder and trying to find the culprit. Internal corruption led by who knows comes to the forefront. Elie is brave and cannot be corrupted

Tense

Madeleine Brolly is the perfect narrator for this wonderful series set in the early middle ages and featuring a protagonist with a rather modern feminist perspective. Ela is feisty, courageous and resourceful. The other characters are well developed. l look forward to seeing more of her titles released as audiobooks.
