_______________

The book club was her idea, of course.

It was her way into our group. A chance to get close.

I knew from the day she arrived that she couldn't be trusted.

And I was right.

Alice didn't come to the village for peace and quiet.

She came for revenge.

A deliciously addictive psychological thriller about a book club that unravels dark and scandalous secrets between one circle of neighbours. The perfect page-turner for fans of Big Little Lies and The Rumour.

Critic reviews

I loved this book - tightly plotted, edge-of-seat gripping and likely to make you want to avoid book groups for the foreseeable future!
I raced through it - edgy, tense and wry with great foreshadowing. No one has ever asked me to join a book club - now I think it's for the best!
A dark, twisty, claustrophobic read. I love those locked room novels (albeit locked village in this case!) . . . A thrilling psychological debut
Intensely twisty
Just finished The Book Club and I for one am terrified of the woman next door!
Intricately plotted, this gripping thriller is written with great style and has a host of wonderful characters to be loved and hated in equal measure
Smart, sassy . . . Midsomer Murders meets Desperate Housewives. Immensely entertaining, the growing sense of menace - of 'where have I seen you before?' - grips and chills in equal measures. An excellent confident debut!
An irresistible slow descent into darkness, with twist upon twist upon twist. C.J. Cooper's page-turner debut kept on surprising me right to the end. Brava!
A fabulous, page-turning read! Beautifully written and I loved the humour . . . Highly recommended!
Intuitive and addictive - a great debut

The story seemed very predictable at first. It seemed to have flowed towards what you think would happen next but had the right amount of twist to throw you off slightly. It was well narrated. I definitely wanted to see what was uncovered in the next chapter; everything came full circle at the end. It was a thriller, for sure!

So many plot twists for me!

Whoa! Emily is a real piece of work, and those who cross her, even unintentionally, are none the wiser. Lucy will learn that soon enough as each cleverly manipulated book club meeting unfolds clue after clue. That's if she even catches on and pieces everything together in time. What a great book!

This is NOT your average book club!

Couldn’t stop listening. Love the story. This is the type of mystery I love to listen to.

Love the narrator

Great characters and story. Narration was good too. However ending could’ve been way better. Feels like the author just phoned it in at the end. But it leaves the book open for a series I guess.

Good listen…ending not so great.

No spoilers. Slightly unsatisfying ending, but I might feel differently about it later. This is a super fun read, there are even times where I felt a little spooked and that’s hard to do after reading a million books and watching a million thrillers. I really enjoyed it and ended up finishing it very fast. Don’t listen to the haters who think that everyone in a thriller should know they’re in a thriller and act accordingly. 🙄

Actually it’s totally plausible
