In ancient Israel, during the time of the Judges, a dark age has descended. The men of the twelve Hebrew tribes have abandoned their God, and have failed to stand against their enemies for years.

Warlords rule the countryside, preventing safe travel, and the mighty empire of the Philistines seeks to control the homeland of Abraham's descendants.

A farmer named Shamgar learns that an army of Philistines is invading the valley where he lives peacefully with his family. As they approach, determined to destroy everything in their path, Shamgar must try to convince a frightened population to stand with him in the last place the Philistines can be stopped: a mountain pass known as the Boundary of Blood

“In the days of Shamgar son of Anath...the highways were abandoned; travelers took to winding paths. Villagers in Israel would not fight...” JUDGES 5: 6-7

Cliff continues to be one of my favorite authors. A writer whose storytelling makes ancient stories real and relevant to circumstances unfolding in modern times. Additionally, Cliff's performance makes me feel like I am in the presence of a reliable narrator. What I have always enjoyed about Cliff's work is that he crafts tales from the Bible that feel plausible and possible. While I understand his books are works of fiction, he tells the story in a way that it COULD have happened! My only complaint is that it's shorter than his other books. Be that as it may, it is still a stellar offering. May God continue to bless all you put your hands to do (Psalm 90: 17). Praise and arrows.

Ever since I first read Judges and even now I envision how Shamgar would have pulled off this victory. The story that Cliff was able to put together is astonishing. He incorporates so many historically accurate places, items and cultural details that compliments the creatively liberty. If you want to read an expounded, gritty, raw story of how a broken man can be used by God, then read this book. Then go and read the other series, the Lion of War, by the Cliff Graham.
