The first contemporary novel by New York Times bestselling author Mary Jo Putney, The Burning Point is a riveting story of the ties that bind two people together—and the incendiary forces that can tear them apart.

Kate Corsi always dreamed of working for her family’s world famous explosive demolition business—a wish her old-fashioned father denied until the day he died. According to his will, Kate will receive a fortune while her ex-husband, Donovan, will inherit the family business. But only if they agree to live under the same roof for a year.

Forced into a reluctant alliance, Kate and Donovan must discover the truth about her father’s death—and confront the past that almost destroyed them both. And as they face their shattered dreams, their wrenching secrets and bitter resentments, they find themselves sliding perilously toward the burning point where passion catches fire once more. …

although the love story is a bit predictable, out has a good mystery subplot. In addition it is a steamy romance. Perfect book for the beach.

great summer read

Putney explored beyond her historical settings to do this trio of related contemporary novels. They're very good stand-alones, so a reader needn't do them in order.
Very enjoyable! Well worth reading. You may find, as I have that they're keepers, to be read again and again.
Narrator does an excellent job!

Possible Spoilers:
This story definitely shows its age. Sam Corsi dies in a supposed accident later deemed deliberate sabotage & murder. He owned Phoenix Demolition International (PDI) which he will leave to his second-in-command and former son-in-law Patrick Donovan. Sam was leaving financial assets split between his son Tom and daughter Kate with one caveat: Kate and Donovan had to live together for 1 year or none of them inherited.
The two had issues to resolve regarding their divorce 10 years earlier and someone was still trying to sabotage PDI. Kate finally gets to work for her family’s company that her father excluded her from.
Garrett has a very pleasant voice, but I think I would prefer him narrating nonfiction. He doesn’t have the range for enough character differentiation.

Dated

I think the author misunderstands the psychology of domestic abusers in a way that is dangerous to women. DNF once I realized that is where this was going.

Love the author, not this story
