Voiced by Cindy Hardin Killavey, Mrs. Pittman's wit and guile comes to the fore when she is faced with a blood-stained rope and towel and a missing tenant, the winsome Jennie Brice. Of course, Mrs. Pittman has something that the police don't: ready access to snoop around Jennie's room, and the fear of a killer on the premises. Listeners will be charmed and intrigued by this performance, which introduces a modern audience to the works of Mary Roberts Rinehart, often nicknamed "the American Agatha Christie".

I like this writer's way of keeping you guessing. She develops her characters well and adds a slight bit of romance. Still this book was too repetitious with the clue review.

Love this book! What happened to Jennie Brice? Who knows? Mrs. Pittman believes Jennie was murdered and that Jennie's husband did her in, but how to prove it?

Story had a lot of potential and the author picked a very unique setting for the mystery. Additionally, the author's descriptive skills proved to be very good. Very easy to envision oneself standing in the scene. Unfortunately, the ending just petered out as if the author ran out of ideas. It was so unfulfilling that the author had to have the guilty party confess everything simply so she could tie-up loose ends. Most disappointing; however, was the narrator. No personality, no emotion. Just a stiff cardboard reading of the book with no animation or enjoyment whatsoever. Very disappointing.
