One need to be a native Russian speaker to fully appreciate the performance. The previous reviewer that spoke about actors laughing like hyenas clearly is not familiar with Russian language of 19th century. In my opinion the performance is excellent, all the actors are superb. Highly recommend for Russian audience. If you are not fluent in Russian just listen to the performance translated to your native language.

Excellent!!!

My chiefest problem with the performance is the cackling laughter. The actors deliver their lines with prolonged, annoying laughter. Now it’s true that Chekov intended his plays as comedies, but that doesn’t mean following each line with a prolonged obnoxious, incessant laughter! I increased the speed to 2.5x just to tolerate it, and it still seemed too goddamn long! I don’t want to sit there listening to actors laugh in between their lines like goddamn hyenas! These performers are full of themselves, too indulgent, take every opportunity to revel in their emotions, it’s sickening. What did Shakespeare day to his actors, “don’t get in the way of my words.” I’ve listened to the LATW performance, and this version is a full 30min longer! No doubt it’s on the account of the performance.

The performance is atrocious, I don’t recommend it
