Padraic Collum
Padraig Colum (1881-1972) was an Irish dramatist, poet, novelist, essayist, biographer, children's writer, and editor. He was a leading figure of the Irish Literary Revival. Colum wrote The Children's Homer in 1918 as a retelling for younger readers of Homer's epic poems, The Iliad and The Odyssey. It recounts the adventures of Achilles and his allies as he waged war against the Trojans and the experiences of Odysseus on his voyage back from the Trojan War, including his encounters with Scylla and Charybdis, the gigantic cyclops, the sinister Sirens, and the beautiful but evil Circe.
