They had the perfect plan to start a new life together...before it all went horribly wrong.

A new twisting novel of psychological suspense from the acclaimed author of The Girl I Used to Be.

Coworkers Ruby and Harry are in love—but they’re married to other people. They decide to tell their spouses that their marriages are over and to start a new life together. Ruby has wanted to leave her controlling husband for a while, so she tells him she’s leaving and waits at the hotel where she and Harry are to meet. But Harry never shows up.

Suddenly, Ruby has lost everything. Harry won’t answer her calls, and she’s fired from her job. She finds a cheap apartment in a run-down part of town, all the while wondering what happened to Harry.

Just as Ruby thinks she’s hit rock bottom, strange and menacing things start to happen—someone is sneaking into her apartment, and someone is following her home late at night—and she is going to have to fight for her survival.

I liked this book. Didn't know what to expect but it did make me say 'uh oh' a few times which is a good thing. The narrators were great and they did a wonderful job individualizing the characters. I recommend this book. It's not a thriller but it does have an unexpected ending.

I enjoyed every word, every twist, every turn! The end was so richious!! Soooo good!! I listened to the entire book in only 2 sittings because I couldn't handle not knowing what was going to come next.

I love the genre...it’s comforting in a way to read about people with bigger problems than your own sometimes!!! This one fits the bill perfectly. I haven’t finished yet so I can’t comment on the full extent of the story but so far I am fully engaged. The only problem is the narrator for the voice of Emma. It is excruciating! I find myself disappointed when the chapter is Emma. I love her perspective on the story but her narration is sooooo dramatic and she emphasizes way too many words. When she is in conversation with dialogue it’s wonderful...it’s the back story that is just terrible.
On the other hand the voice of Ruby, I could listen to forever! She’s terrific. I would suggest trying a sample first to make sure you can deal with Emma’s narration. I will definitely finish but still cringe a bit through Emma’s chapters.

Love the Story...and one narrator
