Dorothy Edwards was born in Ogmore Vale, Wales in 1902, the daughter of a socialist schoolmaster. She attended Cardiff University where she read Greek and Philosophy and had an ambition to be an opera singer. Her writing brought her to the attention of David Garnett one of the Bloomsbury Set who encouraged her writing and took her into his family as a lodger. However, after a failed love affair and feeling the animosity of the Bloomsbury Set who regarded her as troublesome and provincial, she returned home to Wales. Penniless, she fell into a deep depression and took her own life by throwing herself in front of a train. In her suicide note she wrote ‘I am killing myself because I have never sincerely loved any human being.’ This unique collection of the Complete Short Stories contains an Introduction by Geoff Sawers who in the course of his research found three new stories. Her sudden and early death meant that these late stories did not see the light of day; they are published here for the first time. Anthologies & Short Stories Classics Short Stories
