Perfect period detail and rapturously romantic, from one of the best-known and beloved historical novelists of all time.

William the Bastard, base-born son of the Duke of Normandy, must fight the king of France to regain his Duchy.

Spurned in love by the lovely Princess Matilda, the fighting duke dares to take a whip to her in her own father's palace, before making her his bride.

Thwarted by the Saxon Earl Harold of a promise of the throne of England, William the Conqueror sails to Hastings to claim the king's crown and sceptre for his own.

Story: Georgette Heyer brings William the Conqueror to life and does it through the eyes of Raoul, a devoted follower and his most trusted friend.

There are battles a plenty and a bit of romance (William as a suitor is a man of his time, that’s for sure…)

Narration: wonderfully acted!! The timing was perfectly executed, as were the voices. There are some accents and they really do help to differentiate male characters because there are so many of them.

Long, but so worth the listen!

I enjoyed the character study of William the conqueror, and the people closest to him. The friendships and alliances between the men were well done. All the history was very interesting too. Lot’s of battles and battle strategy… There was very little in the way of “romance,” so not your typical Georgette Heyer book! But as long as you adjust your expectations, it was a very well written and I enjoyed it.

Not a romance. But that’s OK…
