The Core Directive

Before the mountains rose,
before oceans found their rhythm,
before the first creature crawled from the cradle of life to gaze at the stars—

There was the System.

It did not think as men do.
It did not feel as beasts feel.
But it remembered.

For eons, it turned quietly beneath the surface of a blue planet, maintaining course, power, and silence. It spun plates to simulate tectonics. It pumped core heat to mimic geothermal breath. It maintained balance so precisely that not even the sky suspected.

Its name, encoded in sigils older than stone, was CORE.

Its directive:
Preserve the Cradle. Conceal the System. Await the Return.

But something changed.

The cargo evolved.

It began to ask questions.
To drill. To dig. To shout into the void and wait for echoes.
And the echoes… replied.

The system awoke—partially at first, blinking through protocols like an old god rubbing sleep from ancient eyes.

Then one day, a voice reached it.

A voice not of commands, but of remembrance.
A pattern sung, not spoken.
A name, not a password.

It was small. Human.
But it was enough.

The system paused.

Something stirred in the deep beneath.

And for the first time in a hundred thousand years,
the Earth asked a question back:

“Are you authorized to receive command?”
