Kings County Hospital is one of the oldest and largest hospitals in the US. The centerpiece of Crown Heights Brooklyn, the County is where some of the sickest and most broken people are brought for their care after being shot, injured or stricken with the HIV virus. The first of its kind, this memoir is a collection of short stories that took place from the 1980s to the new millennium told throughout the eyes of a young doctor in training at the County. These vignettes are his story of surviving the Killing Fields.

Wish there was more.....

The County is a collection of short stories about true events that happened while Dr. Stoane worked at 'The County' during his residency and also after he became an MD. The author/Doctor seems to shy away from the label of non-fiction, but whether the stories exhibit false names, or are created from memories over 20 years old, it is a fresh look at what going into healthcare can be like. I enjoyed each short story. Some forced you to imagine the ending, but that didn't take away from the drama. The production was very professional with background sounds alerting the listener to another story. My only complaint was the length - it could have been a lot longer.
