Descend Into Depravity…

After the death of his mother, Cade Colter arrives in the seemingly idyllic mountain town of Crimson Cove, where his older brother Brooks is being pulled into the depths of a deadly addiction. His drug of choice: the venom of Gretchen VanTreese, a beautiful, ruthless vampire who rules the Crimson Corset nightclub, a local den of debauchery notorious for its lurid parties and sordid past.

As Cade delves into Crimson Cove’s dark underworld to save his brother from a fate far worse than death, he discovers Gretchen’s real obsession: his own blood, which holds the power to create a new breed of vampire that could forever tip the balance between two worlds.

Battling against Gretchen’s deadly designs, Cade must confront a terrifying truth: that saving his brother could unleash an unstoppable new world order where Gretchen reigns supreme -- and a vampire uprising could enslave humanity forever.

The Crimson Corset grabs you right from the start, keeps you guessing, and does not let you go. Two very different groups of vampires co-exist in the same area with the fangless among them completely oblivious! The characters are so clearly defined, a few with a healthy helping of quirks that had me laughing out loud. A few that had me looking for a stake and a sledgehammer. All of them so real you’d expect to find them at the cafe where you have breakfast every morning! The plot was fascinating. My interest never waned. As much as I couldn’t wait to see how every thing got resolved, I didn’t want it to end. I loved every minute and I can’t wait for more. So very, very well done!

A Horrifying, Enthralling, Fabulous Wild Ride!

As a reader of Vampire fiction for over 50 years, I am always in search of the next great tale. This book had a lot of unique aspects to it and, overall, was enjoyable. That being said, I do have a couple of comments about the book. There was more of an erotic aspect to the book than I anticipated. If I had been reading the book instead of listening, I would have skipped over several chapters. I realize that vampires are supposed to be sexual creatures, but this book focused on that a little too much for my taste.

I liked the author's take on the typical vampire tale by having a male character be the one enthralled by a female vampire instead of the usual male vampire/female subject. Also, the comparison of the vampire's hold over her "subjects" to a drug addiction was well done.

I had a hard time getting into the listening of this book. At first, the narrator seemed bored with what he was doing and I had a hard time continuing to listen. After a while, either I got used to his delivery or he improved (I think it was the latter). He was much more animated in the latter part of the book and had some pretty good voices for the different characters. I was given the chance to listen to this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher and I chose to review it.

If the cover of this book doesn't captivate you, the story will absolutely draw you in! From the beginning, the town, the characters, and sexy vampires kept me on edge Alistair Cross takes the vampire legend to a whole new level. His ideas, from how they survive to how they die is absolutely brilliant. If you're a fan of vampire novels, horror, mystery, erotic paranormal romance, or just a damn good story, this book is for you. Now, I can't wait to sink my teeth into book 2... The Silver Dagger.

Brilliant and Beautiful

This is the first book that I've listened to or read by this author. I have to say that I very much enjoy his writing style! His characters are likeable (except those who aren't supposed to be likeable) and I feel like I got to know them. I very much appreciate that in a book!

I struggled a bit with the narration. I wasn't a fan of the narrator at first. But he grew on me. Even though I struggled with the narration, at first, I still gave it five stars. The sum of this audiobook is definitely deserving of five stars! If you struggle with the narration, too, I recommend giving it a little time. Hopefully the book, itself, will grow on you... like it did me! It's a great story!
