The Cross, the Coin, and the Sword

Caught up in conflict and thrust into battle, a young man must escape the Holy Roman Empire, leaving his home and beloved family behind. From Saxony to the Alps, he finds himself outside Saint Georgenberg’s Monastery in the Tyrol. On a hillside, under the stars, he dreams more than dream…a vision of fire and a child outside a great fortress in the wilderness. At the base of God’s holy mountain, the boy summons him. With pleading eyes and outstretched arms, his lips move, “Come. I need you… Come. I need you…” Then the child adds one last puzzling word, “Come. I need you…father.”

Set during the Reformation, from Wittenberg, across the Adriatic, to Alexandria and the great wilderness beyond, the young man follows the call to the base of Mount Sinai. A call to a mysterious and ancient fortress and a boy who desperately needs him. Along the way, his faith will be challenged, reshaped, and his life blessed beyond his wildest dreams.
