An Introduction

Prequel to the Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery series

We meet Lucy James as she is proposed to by Johnny Rockefeller while they are touring London. Lucy has come to England to work in the theatre and to find out who her parents are. While pursuing that quest, she and Johnny become hostages during a bank holdup. Compared to other books in this series, it is very short; but, critical in getting a feel for her character. Very nicely done and as always, the two narrators have done an excellent job.

short but exciting

This was a short but exciting little story. We get a good glimpse into the character and abilities of Miss Lucy James. Her bravery and analytical mind saves the day. When everyone else was compliant, she chose to take action. I am looking forward to reading of her exploits in the future. What a surprise she's going to be.

Pretty Good

Mr. P can get 5 stars from me anytime, for anything. Ms. King is good, doing accents and voices well. I was not enchanted by her intonation and expression but she did all right. The story itself seemed somewhat simplistic. Perhaps the full length novels in the series will appeal to me more.

Good story as were the first three in the series

I do like female narrators, for Lucy's part at least. The dual narration of this book is quite good. The story was good- interesting plot, well constructed with some twists and turns and surprises. I did find it weird that Lucy kept referring to not knowing who her sponsor was or who her family was or where her name came from. Since that was ALL addressed in the first and second book!!! It was not until the book was ENDING that the closing commentary said this was a PREQUEL to the series. NOW it makes sense haha.
Overall, this was a really good listen and I will continue on to the next books in the series.

An entertaining prequel to Lucy James and Sherlock Holmes.

This entry to the series was good fun. It is nicely plotted, though a tad light weight for a Holmesian story- - but then, it is a short story, not a full-length book. I always enjoy Simon Prebble as a narrator and I’m sure you will too. Wendy Tremont King does a nice job too, but is so unrelentingly cheerful that I long for a bit more variety. But, all in all, it’s an entertaining story that sheds light on some of what happens later in the series.
