In 1906, without studying navigation, Jack London, his wife Charmian, and a small crew sail to the South Pacific, hoping not to get lost. His adventures and misadventures at sea led him through native uprisings, The Doldrums, and the then unknown sport of surfing.

London, one of the most popular American writers of his time, describes the construction and outfitting of his boat in San Francisco, including frustrations with vendors, with which every boat owner will sympathize. London narrates his adventures in Hawaii, his perilous navigation across the Pacific sailing through the windless doldrums to the Marquesas Islands, Typee, Papeete, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Fiji, Samoa and The Solomon Islands, before being overcome by tropical diseases and fever.

This first person narrative, in its first recording as an audiobook, combines London’s spirit of adventure with his wonderful sense of humor.

I like Jack London's writing, I like travelogs, I liked this story.... but this specific production really challenged me to like. The first two or three minutes of each chapter are overlaid with so many sound effects one has to strain to hear the narrative, and throughout the narration is given in this breathless ranting kind of way which makes the author sound like a crazy crank. But if you can ignore that it's an interesting story.

Annoying Production of a Good Story

Good book bizarre narration. I never could get past the voice enough to immerse myself in the story.
