After the death of her beloved father, headstrong princess Thirrin Freer Strong-In-The-Arm becomes warrior queen of her homeland, Icemark, defending it from a formidable invader. Despite Thirrin's bravery and the support of Oskan, the Witch's son, the task proves more difficult than Thirrin ever dreamed. She must assemble a force to rival her opponent. And, in the chill winter of Icemark, she only has until spring to unite the strange beasts and frightening creatures who live just outside her country. Ultimately, it is Thirrin's vision and determination that will see her through to victory.©2005 Gordon Korman (P)2006 Scholastic Inc. Editorial reviews

Heather O'Neil brilliantly voices Stuart Hill's well-drawn characters and the many races that populate the military fantasy that begins the award-winning Icemark Chronicles. From the young warlock, at once playful and wise, to the willful redheaded warrior he needs to ground as she seeks alliances with vampires, werewolves, and the other creatures of the Land of the Ghosts, O'Neil's rich accent lends a magic, a gravity, and an authenticity to the history of Hill's beautifully realized realm.

The battles are thrilling and dramatically performed in this acclaimed tale of the young queen who must stand against an invading force seeking to eradicate her home - and learn a lot about humanity and courage along the way.

I love this series. I followed it from the release of book one years ago and have all in print. When I got Audible and this was shown I immediately got it and loved it. However, there are 4 books and Audible only has the first. I highly recommend the series for those who love fantasy novels.

WE NEED THE OTHER 3 BOOKS

This book was an enjoyable YA epic fantasy that kept me involved for the duration. Well written, interesting characters interplay in a struggle for a kingdom's survival. Be prepared for a number of battle scenes.

Well done.

It has many similarities to the series Rangers apprentice in the style of combat and the focusing on the main character who is both young and has to deal with medieval armies. The world is rich with a diverse culture and realistic attributes like the deeper traditions of the Viking culture. Excellent book for teenagers and people who like a good female main character

If you like old times combat and war- this is an excellent book.
