A swift water rescue officer trying to forget his ex, a literature professor trying to move on from a broken heart, and a flood that shows them they can have a second chance together.

K9 Handler Ryan Connolly is an expert at swift water rescue. He's traveled all over the world on assignment, wherever a major flood is happening and help is needed. So when Oklahoma City is hit by a major rain storm and the levees break, Connolly and his team are called in to assist. What he isn’t prepared for is rescuing his sister and her best friend, who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend.

Charlotte Little enjoys her job at the local university in Oklahoma City. She gets to work with her best friend and share her passion for literature with her students. It doesn't hurt she feels safe there, surrounded by her routine that never leaves her stranded, at least until she is caught up in a flood she can’t get away from. What she doesn’t expect is for her ex to be the one who has to rescue her.

Will Ryan find a way to prove he’s changed? Will Charlotte be able to forgive him for the past? And will the flood end their reunion before they have a chance to start again?

It took awhile through the story before the two main characters were able to see each other. In the middle of a weather disaster, Ryan gets an opportunity to finally lay eyes on his high school sweetheart, Charlotte. He came across to me as a bit unpersonable and a lone Ranger. Although he still had feelings for Charlotte, it seemed implausible that he would make room for her in his life. Meanwhile, Charlotte still found herself wanting to see if things could work out between them. Fortunately, Ryan overcame his reluctance and fears. Both he and Charlotte decided to make a go of it. As a side bonus, Denise and Mark started to see each other as well.
