THE DARKNESS IN THE PINES
THE BEAST OF FALLOW PINES
This short story takes place before THE BEAST OF FALLOW PINES and SOMETHING IN THE WOODS.

After the tragic death of his wife, Howard Ward returned to Fallow Pines to live a life of quiet seclusion. When Howard comes across the mangled remains of a bear in the woods, he discovers that something he thought only existed in campfire legends is stalking the darkness of the pines.

I like the characters. I like all the descriptions of fight scenes. It was a great little story like to see more of that.

I liked the main character but the story seemed to contradict itself. Spoilers: The old man lived on the mountain for years and suddenly that becomes a problem? What happened to the sheriff? Why was the beast 10 feet tall and bulletproof? I think this could have either been shortened (repetitive in areas) or lengthened to not be hurried at the end.
I do NOT like virtual voice. At all. It takes away from the experience.
