Bill Masen wakes in his hospital bed, eyes bandaged. Something is wrong: it’s unusually quiet and no one has come to his room. When he removes his bandages he finds a world that has changed utterly. Most of the population are completely blind – only those who didn’t watch the night sky can still see. And, as law and order break down, a new menace appears – Triffids, walking carnivorous plants that can kill a human with their lethal sting. For Bill and the other survivors, it’s now a battle to stay alive. Gary Watson stars as Bill, with Barbara Shelley as Josella in these six stirring episodes. Also amongst the cast are Peter Sallis, Marjorie Westbury and some names familiar to Doctor Who aficionados: Peter Pratt, Christopher Bidmead and David Brierley. First published in 1951, John Wyndham’s novel became his best-known work and a classic of 20th Century fiction.©2006 BBC Audiobooks Ltd; (P)2006 BBC Audiobooks Ltd Science Fiction Fiction Drama & Plays Classics European World Literature

It was a fairly quick finish, so it was easy to commit to, but the so-called titular Triffids did not really factor into the plot as much as one might think. It was still an interesting take on a sci-fi apocalyptic scenario, but I was hoping to see more plant action in one where plants take over the world.

Day of the Triffids not Actually about Triffids

The only things I have to critics is that the transition music is very loud compare to the narration volume but other then that it was a very good story telling and a perfect tone for an old book !

Good first audio book. Loved it !

This is such a classic story, and a very well done adaptation...except that it REALLY could use some tweaking in terms of the sound quality. The music is piercing and painful in relation to the speech. It really was painful when I wasn't fast enough to turn down the volume between chapters, when the music cuts in... Whoever put this out should have that adjusted.

great story!

Entertqaining, but not really wonderful

I liked this fun but very un-pc tale. It was a short listen... Less than 3 hours but if you are fan of classic sci-fi this is a must. I can really see that people have borrowed plot devices from this story to make other modern horror films.

I think I would like it if audible would narrate the novel rather than just the radio program. It might be a tad longer. Overall, great

I only wish it were longer
