From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Ever After of Ella and Micha comes a story of scars, courage, and new possibilities . . .

Luke Price's life has always been about order, control, and acting tough on the outside. For Luke, meaningless relationships are a distraction-a way to tune out the twisted memories of his childhood. He desperately wishes he could forget his past, but it haunts him no matter what he does.

Violet Hayes has had a rough life. When she was young, she was left with no family and the memory of her parents' unsolved murders. She grew up in foster homes, living with irresponsible parents, drugs, and neglect, and trying to fight the painful memories of the night her parents were taken from her. But it's hard to forget when she never got closure-and she can't stop dreaming about what happened that tragic night. To make it through life, she keeps her distance from everyone and never allows herself to feel anything.

Then Violet meets Luke. The two clash instantly, yet they can't seem to stay away from each other. Although they fight it, they both start to open up and feel things they've never felt before. They discover just how similar they are. But they also discover something else: The past always catches up with you . . .

Critic reviews

"Sorensen's portrayal of... relationships and long-distance love, as well as the longing to escape one's past, raises her above her new adult peers."—RT Book Reviews on The Secret of Ella and Micha

Sorensen consistently creates engaging characters. Readers become invested in the outcome because they are connected to them through the author's words. The obstacles these young adults overcome are tragic but the manner it's presented isn't over-dramatized. You appreciate their struggles but still like their actions in pushing through to an HEA or HFN.

I liked Callie and Kayden’s story which lead me to Violet and Luke. I liked Luke in the Callie and Kayden books, but this one left me with not liking any of the main characters. Seth was okay in the other stories, a bit pushy and annoying, but in this one he was a bully. It’s not cool to slut shame period. It irritated me that no one told him off properly. Then there was the weed. I don’t think this author has any experience and it showed by spreading misinformation. Luke kept lumping pot with other drugs. Stop it! Violet claims she gets angry and irrational on pot, similar to alcohol. What?! How is a small amount of pot going to make enough brownies to last a week? The author should have googled first and not relied on the Dare program propaganda. Not having accurate facts made the story fall apart for me on top of how unlikeable these characters are. These kids are the worse tenants. A friend gave them a deal on the place and they are trashing it without a care. Violet fat shames. None of the characters have any redeeming qualities. This story left me irrationally irritated and possibly ruined Callie and Kayden’s story (shame since this one was relatable).

Narrators did an excellent job, though.
