Bill’s Story: Chapter 1 – The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous Study Guide

This companion study guide examines “Bill’s Story,” the opening chapter of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, where Bill Wilson recounts his personal struggle with alcoholism and the events that led to the development of the Twelve Step recovery movement.

Bill’s account has helped millions of people recognize the patterns of addiction and understand the possibility of recovery. By studying this chapter closely, readers can gain insight into the early experiences that shaped Alcoholics Anonymous and the principles that later became the Twelve Steps.

This guide explores the themes and lessons found in Bill’s Story while providing historical context for the early years of the recovery movement.

Inside this study guide you will find:

  • An introduction explaining the core recovery message presented in Bill Wilson’s story
  • The text of Chapter One: Bill’s Story for reference and reflection
  • Historical background on the development of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous
  • Key themes and principles explained in clear, practical terms
  • Study questions designed for personal reflection or group discussion
  • Additional exercises that connect the chapter’s lessons to Twelve Step recovery principles
  • Guidance on applying these ideas through recovery meetings and group support

This audiobook can be used in drug and alcohol treatment centers, recovery groups, institutional programs, or personal study at home. It is designed to help readers better understand the message behind Bill Wilson’s experience and how those lessons can support the journey toward sobriety.

Note: This study guide is designed to be used alongside the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous for the study sections.

This book is one of the best books that have to do with The Late Great DR. SILKWORTH. If you have read the DR.Opinions and still not sure if your an Alcoholic? Or if your not sure what kind of an Alcoholic you are? Listen to this. You will hear his opinion again but in more detailed compare to the Big Book. I'm not putting down the Big Book. I love that book. I have the original 1939 version of that book along with the 4th edition.

THE LATE GREAT DR. SILKWORTH

Narrator has lousy pace, word pronunciations, and is monotonous in tone. As a talk radio host and public speaker, I quit being irritated early on. The story and message are fine. I know from many years of sobriety. Refund everyones’ $.

Barely Tolerable to listen too
