He seeks redemption and to uncover the farm’s darkest secrets.

She seeks answers—and to bury those secrets forever.

When broken loner, Noah Carter arrives to work on the ramshackle farm of Agnes Deveraux Keller, a French WWII survivor with dementia, he finds a place shrouded in secrets. Though confused at times, what Agnes knows best are the very lessons Noah needs most for his own redemption—courage, forgiveness, and love. But when the woman’s estranged granddaughter, Tayte, arrives, she has her own plans for her aged grandmother.

A discovery in the attic sends a shockwave across the old farm, answering questions about Tayte’s past and threatening to unearth a secret her proud grandmother has guarded for seventy years. Faced with a broken family relationship teetering on betrayal, Tayte has a difficult decision to make. With secrets this deep and shadows this dark, slaying the dragons of their pasts will require all the courage Noah and Tayte have.

Can they finally find forgiveness, embrace the lessons they’ve been taught by Agnes, and heal together?

An inspirational novel of faith, forgiveness, and romance that spans generations.

Powerful and moving story that is filled with unforgettable characters. Heartache and struggles from the past come to light, allowing for healing for Noah and Tayte. Agnes is a character that will tug at your heartstrings. The way her character was written was really well done. She is full of light and hope but her mind is being taken over by dementia. Those chapters from her point of view were so well done! I loved watching how she was cared for by a couple of characters in the book. It was very tender and their patience with her was very sweet. But they also have frustrations as the disease is no respecter of persons and causes pain and sorrow and frustrations.

I loved watching each character go through their arc and seeing their growth and change and understanding come about. Beautiful story showing human nature and the ability we all have to change and become better people, regardless of where we're at in life. I also loved the sense of community and family that was throughout the story.

There's a mystery and I loved how it all unfolded. I loved the healing that came about. There's sorrow and heartache but there's also love and healing and friendship and family and forgiveness. This book is full of beauty. I loved listening to Lisa Swinton as she narrated the different characters' voices and story. She did a fabulous job bringing this story to life for me!

Content: Clean. The book does talk about death, cancer, dementia, childhood neglect and abuse. But it was written in a way that I felt was sensitive and understanding. Some kisses but nothing further. No language.

I received a copy of the audiobook from the author/narrator. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

This story is a contemporary tale of two people with difficult past family situations who are throw together to care for a woman with dementia. Family secrets stretch back to Nazi Germany and there are so many surprises along the way. The narrator did a good job distinguishing character voices. I enjoyed listening to it.

This book was such a heartfelt story. I didn’t quite know what to expect going into it, but it turned out to be one of those stories that will stay with you and feel’s like you went on a journey with the characters. I was heartbroken for the characters; they all had such real and broken experiences in their lives, particularly past trauma. I loved the way Noah and Tate chose better for their futures and the path to healing they experienced. It was an emotional journey, but ended on a hopeful note.
I thought the narration was well done and made the story easy to follow along and enjoyable to listen to.

This amazing story felt very real! It dealt with so many different dragons… human relationships, resolutions, loss, and love. Alzheimer’s was a huge dragon in this book, as well. All of these were handled with care and finesse, and by the end of the tale, l felt like the characters in this book had become stronger, more resilient people! The narrator did a great job, although there was some static background noise at times.

This story is beautiful! Each of the characters is damaged in one way or another and as the listener gets to know them, they become vibrant and real.

The insights into Agnes’s mind as she struggles with Alzheimer’s is touching and felt very realistic.

Noah and Tate have both been damaged by their upbringings and a lot this book is their struggles to become the people they know they can become and to be loved. It was a wonderful book!

The narrator did a good job. The 4 stars is because of a few mispronounced words. Agnes’ accent was interesting, but I came to equate it with her character, no other voice will now do for Agnes! The narrator did a good job with the male voices, not every female narrator does.

A beautiful, complex book of interwoven lives, love and chosen family
