Ariane has finally adjusted to her new life as a vampire, hidden away from her kin in the Georgian countryside.

She can now set her eyes on her next pursuit: her return to society as a rightful, free entity. However, regaining her freedom will not be easy. Beyond the issues of cutthroat vampire politics, the protection of her territory will also bring surprising challenges.

Ariane will have to face them with the help of the friends she gathered around her: Loth, the burly smith and scholar; Dalton, her sassy human vassal; and the Choctaw seer Nashoba.

It will take that much, for the world is old and there are many ancient threats waiting to be unearthed.

The first book was already amazing and a strong start to the series. Book 2 takes the momentum from book 1 and keeps going strong. The story's amazing quality continues from the first, and it's very enjoyable. The world-building is further expanded, and it is a delight to experience. The characters, new and returning, are still amazing. MC is still a delight to follow. Another amazing entry in the series, I can't recommend this enough!

5 stars, it only gets better!

A great series of adventures for our plucky vampiric monster girl. Battling monsters, investigating secret societies, going on fact finding missions that totally count as heists, assassinations, fighting an army, and fighting undying eldritch abominations. This story has it all and it all is GREAT. The ending is bittersweet, but i am so hyped for the next one. I hope this never ends!!!!

The adventures continue...

Takes off right where the last one left off. Was not expecting certain things, but they make sense if you think about out. There will be no riding off into the sunset with a big smile on your face here folks. Whatever ever victory there is, will be earned through pain and suffering or because of it. Things will not end as they began for our group.

They only thing that i don't get is the 'power' structure in this book. This book mentions, Fledglings, Courtier's, Masters, and Lords, but does not give a fixed definition or clear example of just how powerful each of those levels really are. I find myself making hypothetical guesses at what each means, but I would rather the author just gives us a clear definition and be done with it.

So far my best assumption, or at least the one that holds up the longest is, each level is 3 to 1 over the previous. A fledgling is 3 times stronger than their former human selves. A Courtier's is 3x stronger than a Fledgling, a Master is 3x stronger than a Courtier. And a Lord is 3x stronger than a Master.

These assumptions seems to hold up till you reach the Master and Lord levels. Its seems depending on the individual, that increase my reach 4x or 5x more than the previous level.

To me this needs to be cleared up.

Next I know the 3rd book is coming but I hope its not the last. Why? Because it would seem 'overstuffed' due to how many open ends that needs closing.

Somehow she needs to feed on all 14 bloodlines to complete her power. She currently only has 4. She needs to find, battle and drink more magical creatures for a better 'internal garden' of power to call upon later. She has to figure a way to use the magic within her'. She has to meet her vampiric sibling and see how that goes. She needs new Vassals and we need their backstory and feel about them the same we feel about Dolton. And more and more.... Too much for one book. Hope the author thinks about doing a 4th and a 5th. I would rather that, than a rush to the finish line. Please don't make this another GAME OF THRONES season 8... Ewwwww

You will like it. Trust me.

I have to say this series is great and can be made into a mini series. Great narrating and writing.
