A binge-worthy and addictive psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist

Your biggest mistake is your sister’s new boyfriend.

All the family are gathered to meet my sister’s new boyfriend, including my husband Seth, and it should be a happy occasion. But the moment I see him my stomach drops. It’s Mateo. My worst mistake. My biggest secret. I hoped I’d never see him again–why is he here now?

‘It’s nice to meet you,’ he says. As I look into Mateo’s cold green eyes, I know he’s playing a deadly game. My hands tremble. This man can’t be trusted. He’s pretending not to know me… and he knows I have to pretend, too.

I’m caught in a lie with no way out. Mateo is dangerous. I don’t want my sister to get hurt. But if I admit who Mateo really is–what really happened between us–I could lose everything. My gorgeous husband. My precious little boy.

Or even my life…

From number 1 bestselling author and the king of jaw-dropping twists, The Ex Who Came Back is a completely addictive and gripping psychological thriller that will have your heart hammering!

Beginning was repetitive and slow.

The book picked up at the 50% mark.

I am a Daniel Hurst fan. Not his best book.

The setup had potential—an ex resurfacing to turn someone’s life upside down—but, overall, the execution felt flat and formulaic.

Narration was great.

Strong Ending

We get a woman who, four years earlier, cheats on her then BF, who's now her husband. She ghosts the guy after a one night stand and somehow he meets the sister and decides to plot revenge - yes four years later. The story never gets into the "why" of his decision nor tells how he knew it was the sister aside from he figured it was her based on her being good w/money. Also, the story could have been at least 30 mins shorter without her repeating what just happened and her feelings. I guess there's a word minimum the author needed.

The biggest plothole of All is at the end the cheater says she erased texts from Mateo's phone. We All know that nothing is truly erased yet the police doesn't bother getting phone records from the service provider?? Ultimately this book is very unrealistic and you keep wanting something more to happen but it just doesn't. The narrator was good though.

Plotholes Galore

Corin was trapped in her mind and I was exhausted: this book walked in circles and I didn’t like it. It took too long to get to the point.

She could have lied

Four hours into the book and still no substance around the storyline. I stopped counting the number of times this quote was repeated…. Because of what I did five years ago. The story is really lacking a plot and the buildup was way overdone and in most cases completely unnecessary.

Disappointed

I love love love Daniel hurst but this one just wasn’t amazing unfortunately. It just left me feeling a bit lacking and the twists were there but not amazing.

Not his best work sadly
