Dani Willis never knew her father, not even his name.
As a child Dani would gaze in the mirror and wonder if she looked anything like her missing father. That's how DNA worked, wasn't it? She dreamed she'd one day meet someone she resembled, and the mystery would be solved. But in Dani's hard scrabble life, fairy tales never come true
At last, nineteen-year-old Dani, has a name. She begins a two-thousand-mile road trip, to confront a wealthy stranger, and introduce herself as his daughter.
While living at the bottom of the economic ladder, Dani learned that you don’t get anything unless you demand it. But Dani doesn’t want her father’s money. She just wants him to acknowledge that he’s her father and explain why he deserted her before she was born.
As Dani watched her mother struggle through financial hardships and loneliness as a single parent, Dani promised herself she’d never be tricked like her mother into loving anyone. A man-free life would guarantee that she’d never become trapped in poverty and left to raise a child alone. But Dani’s childish promise didn’t consider the power of true love in her mother’s life, or in her own future.
Dani’s cross-country trip uncovers mysteries, and surprises, as well as disappointments until she finds the answers she’s searching for. She’s forced to rethink her attitude towards finding love herself.
