In this immersive thriller, a father resumes the search for his missing daughter after the case of her disappearance goes cold. Great for fans of Gillian Flynn, Stieg Larsson, Tara French, and Jess Lourey.

On a frigid December night, Megan Floyd vanishes from the mountain town of Fraser, Colorado. The extensive search provides no answers and as attention of her disappearance fades, the case goes cold. Her father, Tom Floyd, is forced to confront his worst fear that his daughter will never be found, and soon his life and marriage begin to disintegrate around him.

A year after the disappearance and with no new leads, Tom hires private investigator Marshall York, a former detective, and his assistant Hannah Jacobs. They soon start to uncover the secrets of Megan’s dangerous second life, all while fighting their own demons. Tom is guilt-ridden over a missing child case from his past, and Hannah is haunted by the unsolved murder of her older sister.

The case begins to consume all three of their lives, and as they dig deeper, they start to unravel the dark truth of what happened to Megan.

Critic reviews

"The mystery itself is unpredictable while also believable, with many unexpected and harrowing twists and turns. The content of the story is heavy and dark, but Sterling handles the material and the characters with care and sensitivity. Fans of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2005) will find much here to love and will look forward to further stories in the series. An exciting and surprising thriller with a great mystery." (Kirkus Reviews)

"The darkness and cold of the Colorado winter is the perfect setting for the bleakness of the novel as Sterling examines what could make a young woman disappear and the unraveling of a marriage. Great for fans of Jess Lourey's The Quarry Girls, Thomas Fincham's The Dead Daughter." (Book Life, editor's pick)

"In S.C. Sterling's immersive thriller, The Fear of Winter, a father resumes the search for his missing daughter after the case of her disappearance goes cold.... Readers searching for a page-turner are bound to enjoy Sterling's thriller." (Blue Ink Review)

THE FEAR OF WINTER, #1, Audiobook and eBook - I like this book, which I read along with the audiobook. The story lines are intriguing and immersing, and the characters are interesting. There are several good characters. The narrator Jess Nahikian did an excellent job with her reading and her characters and emotions. 4*

Interesting.

The story is quite interesting, despite being a common theme. Mainly because the characters are portrayed as real people, with real, relatable problems and feelings.
I'm very picky about narrators and this one is excellent. She's not grotesquely distorting her voice to portray different characters as so many do.

Very relatable characters, enjoyable narration

I can't believe so few people have listened to this book. it's really an excellent listen! good story, engaging and realistic characters, really great narration. this is about as good as it gets for free books. especially in this genre of thriller suspense. some of them can be really bad... but this is a great one! I hope more people listen to it and it gets more good reviews because that will encourage even more people to listen to it. I have already also listened to the sequel and enjoyed that one equally as much. highly recommend!

LOVED IT!
