College student Madison Monroe's life is forever changed on a cold Halloween night when she becomes the target of a masked assailant. Bound and subjected to unimaginable horrors, Madison manages to escape, but her ordeal is far from over. A decade later, working as a fiction editor and living in seclusion, Madison's past comes back to haunt her in the most terrifying way possible.

When she receives sample edits from a prospective author detailing her own abduction and the impending murders of other women, Madison realizes she is facing a nightmare she thought she had left behind. With the help of a retired homicide detective and an FBI agent, Madison must decipher the clues hidden within the chilling manuscripts to save the lives of innocent victims and confront the demons of her past.

As the stakes rise and the danger intensifies, Madison discovers that the key to stopping the Man in the Mask may lie in unraveling the mystery of her own abduction. But time is running out, and the truth may be more terrifying than she ever imagined.

I first must begin with stating that Audible should BAN all Virtual Voice AI's IMMEDIATELY!

Now the review of the actual book itself...Absolutely SUPERB! Brilliantly written to capture your attention and then takes you on a wildly suspenseful, gripping, roller coaster ride.

It's dark, twisty and best of all a true psychological mystery. I will admit about 4-5 chapters in the middle do drag out a little while giving you the backstory of two of the semi-important characters, but that could also be due to virtual voice being so annoying and improper - although I laughed several times at the AI's pronunciation of "catch up" that kept sounding like ketchup, lol.

Overall I had to give the "AI" performance 4 stars because I did not want to take stars away from how utterly riveting this novel truly is.

This author deserves a freebie RE-DO on Audible with an actual narrator that can truly capture all the characters and the dark dramatic horror scenes that stand out in this novel.

I loved the story so much I may have to purchase the paperback book to add to my shelf collection.

Please do your best to tune-out, adjust speed and equalizer of the AI voice and simply listen to the chapters and I guarantee you'll enjoy it just as thoroughly as I did. Or hey just buy or check the book out at the library and forget virtual voice! 😊

Enjoy!

Yes, the Robo voice was awful. But what are you going to do about it. It is what it is. I thought the story was clever and pretty funny. I think with virtual voice, we have to pay more attention to catch those things. I laughed several times. The only thing I didn’t like about the story is these four people are just bam bam bam bam, taking every clue and solving the mystery immediately with no mistakes. That didn’t seem likely. It was fast moving. A lot of variety and a lot of characters, but without bogging things down. I would definitely listen to more by this author.

Clever and funny

This is the first book I've listened to eith virtual voice. other than some mispronounced works and some interesting pauses (or lack of pausing) it want bad.
The story was well written, characters clicked well together and might have even more with a human voice reading, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Enough twists and suspense to keep me listening late into the night.

Great story, virtual voice not bad

I was hesitant to listen to a book narrated by Virtual voice. Overall, the voice was pleasant but there were so many mispronounced words, it became distracting. The story was good, not great. I'll stick to human narrators going forward.

Virtual voice needs a little tweaking
